Yemen Live Map

About this site

An interactive map of territorial control in Yemen, with airstrikes, attacks and clashes plotted as soon as official sources and reliable outlets report them.

What the site offers

Two views that anyone following Yemen needs in one place: the control map, showing areas held by the legitimate government, by the Houthi terrorist militia, and contested areas, at district level (335 districts); and incidents on the ground — airstrikes, missile and drone attacks, clashes, maritime incidents and attacks on Saudi territory — placed where they happened.

The site also publishes a daily situation summary, regenerated automatically every few minutes, with key figures, the most-reported incidents, official statements and front-line changes.

Where the news comes from

The site continuously follows a fixed set of sources, checking each one every one to two minutes:

Official
The spokesman of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, the Saudi Ministry of Defense, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the General Authority of Civil Aviation, Saba (legitimate government) in Arabic and English, US Central Command, the Office of the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, UN OCHA's ReliefWeb, and UK Maritime Trade Operations.
Outlets
Al Arabiya, Al Hadath, Asharq News, Asharq Al-Awsat, Okaz, Ajel, Saudi News, Sky News Arabia, Al Jazeera, BBC, France 24, Arab News, Saudi Gazette, The National and Anadolu Agency.
Yemeni outlets
Al-Masdar Online, Al-Sahwa Net, Yemen Shabab and Yemen Online.

Every report links to its original source and carries a badge for the source type: Official, Wire, Major outlet or Unrated. Media run by the Houthi terrorist militia is labelled “Party claim” and never counts as a reliable source.

How incidents are detected and located

Headlines are read as soon as they are published, classified by event type (airstrike, missile or drone, clashes, maritime, territorial claim, or statement and analysis), and placed on the map from the cities, districts, airports and ports they mention, in Arabic and English.

When several outlets report the same event, their reports are merged into one incident that lists every source, and a late duplicate never appears as a new event. Visitors can switch merging off in the live-feed options.

Classification and geolocation are automatic and can occasionally be wrong, which is why the link to the original source is always shown.

How the control map is maintained

The control map does not change automatically when a report appears — warring parties often announce gains that are never confirmed. The map is reviewed regularly, and a district only changes hands once the change is confirmed by more than one side. When accounts conflict, the district is marked “Contested” with a dated note explaining the claims and their sources.

Front lines are drawn automatically along the borders between districts held by different sides, and the latest changes on the ground are listed in the “Control” tab with their sources. The date of the last control-map update is always shown on the site.

Editorial policy

The site refers to the internationally recognised Yemeni government as the “legitimate government” and to the Houthi group as the “Houthi terrorist militia”, in line with the legitimate government's position. Headlines are shown exactly as their sources published them.

Limitations

This is a general news-monitoring tool. Areas of control are district-level approximations, and incidents are shown as their sources reported them. Do not use the site for operational, navigational or security purposes.
